Kalimpong, Rishop, Lava, Lolegaon

Kalimpong is a hill town in the Himalayan foothills of West Bengal. Perched on a ridge above the Teesta River. It is about 2 hour drive from New Jalpaiguri Rail Station and Bagdogra airport. It is home to colonial-era buildings like MacFarlane Memorial Church, named after a Scottish missionary. South, the hilltop Durpin Monastery, or Zang Dhok Palri Phodang, contains sacred Buddhist scriptures. It is famous for Orchid and Bonsai nurseries. Delo Park and Rishop, not very far from Kalimpong are two places where one can make a day tour or stay to enjoy serenity and solitude. These places have has landscaped gardens and offers views of the town and surrounding hills including Kanchenjunga.

Lava and Lolegaon

Lava is a small hamlet situated 34 kilometres east of the town of Kalimpong near Algarah in Kalimpong district of the state of West Bengal, India. Lava is situated at an altitude of 7,016 feet. It is one of the few places in West Bengal to receive snow in winter. Lolegaon is a small Lepcha village is a nature’s paradise. It is situated in the extreme end of a Himalayan ridge. It is located at a distance of 24 km from Lava, at an altitude of 1,675 meter. Lolegaon is best known for strolling through the forest and walking on the rope made canopy through tree heads for a kilometer.
