Murshidabad was once upon a time the capital of Bengal when Nawab Siraz ud Daula reigned Bengal. Places to see are Hajarduari Palace, Katra Masjid, Motijheel Kathgola, Old Cossimbazar, Wasf Manjil, Jafarganj Cemetery, Neemak Haram Deuri, kriteswari temple. You can stay in Behrampore, the capital town of Murshidabad district which is just few miles away from Murshidabad. The district is famous for varieties of mangoes. The place is at a distance of 200 km from Kolkata by road/rail and takes around 4 hour by train and 5 hour by road. Week-end 2/3 days tour recommended.
